CZECH Music from Norwich Cathedral Organ

“Iain Quinn has performed an important service in bringing these interesting works into the spotlight in performances which are reliable and worthy and, in the case of the Ropek Variations, surprisingly absorbing. ” --Gramophone Magazine, June 2008

“The playing of this young musician is, as I have implied, very fine and at all timed highly musical. His registrations are excellent and the detail of his part playing is first-class. Here is a rare collection, splendidly presented and recorded, which is very strongly recommended” --International Record Review

Iain Quinn (organ)

[The Norwich Cathedral organ] "offers a symphonic dimension in its pecification that is especially well suited to this repertoire’. When this sound is coupled with the splendid acoustic of the Cathedral the results are glorious." Iain Quinn

This new recording is devoted to Czech organ music and includes pieces by Novák, Janácek, Dvorák and Smetana and the solitary organ work of Martinu. The pieces are linked by the historical legacy of a composition teacherpupil relationship. The largest work is the St Wenceslas Triptych by Vítezslav Novák, which is of equal scale to the great romantic organ works of Liszt and Reubke.
